  • Introduction to the Lab

    - Sungkyunkwan University's Bionanophotonics Laboratory is recruiting undergraduate research participants/master's/integrated master's/doctoral students/doctoral students, postdoctoral researchers/research professors who are full of dreams and passion. (Homepage: www.bionanophotonics-skku.com)

    - In this lab, we explore the interaction between nanostructures and light, and utilize this to develop useful optical devices and systems. For example, we develop multifunctional/ultra-small planar optical devices by implementing artificially designed metamaterials with unique optical properties that do not exist in nature, and biosensors/disease diagnostic chips/bioimaging technologies based on quantum biophysics. Therefore, we welcome students majoring in natural sciences such as physics/chemistry/life sciences, as well as engineering fields such as electronics/mechanics/new materials/chemistry/biomedical engineering.

    - Specifically, our laboratory conducts research to solve difficult problems in the fields of basic science and applied engineering, as follows:

    1) Electromagnetics/solid state physics/optics/quantum mechanics/artificial intelligence-based metamaterial and metasurface design technology
    2) Ultra-precision nanofabrication/production technology for manufacturing metaphotonics and quantum/nano devices.
    3) Metasurface-based ultra-thin multifunctional lens, camera, and lidar system
    4) Realistic, ultra-small holographic AR/VR display and anti-counterfeiting technology
    5) Nano-biochip for ultra-high sensitivity molecular sensing/imaging and electron tunneling/energy resonance transfer phenomenon observation
    6) Quantum mechanics-based medical devices for early disease diagnosis and ultra-fast molecular diagnosis
    7) Metaphotonics-based bioimaging technology for healthcare monitoring and bio-optical imaging
    8) Optical spectroscopy techniques for single molecule/single protein sensing and observation of molecule-resonator strong interactions

  • Graduate Information

    - Although we are a new research lab and do not have any graduates yet, you can get a job at research institutes in electronics, display, optics, and biotech companies, government-funded research institutes, and universities, depending on your major (electromagnetic/optical simulation and numerical analysis, semiconductor processing, nano-device/biochip manufacturing, and optical measurement experiments).

    - The companies involved in our research are as follows:
Semiconductor Process: Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, ASML, etc.
Optical Device Design and Optical Measurement: Samsung Electronics, Samsung Electro-Mechanics, Samsung Display, LG Innotek, LG Display, LG Electronics, etc.
  • How to apply to the lab

    - Our lab is affiliated with the Department of Biophysics as a full-time position, and is affiliated with the Department of Intelligent Precision Healthcare Convergence and the Department of Meta-Biohealth as a concurrent position. Students can apply to either department according to their major and area of interest.

    - If you would like to join the lab, please send your self-introduction, resume, and transcript to Professor Kim In-ki’s email (inki.kim@skku.edu).
  • Qualifications

    - Anyone with a bachelor's or master's degree or a prospective graduate in a related field (natural sciences - physics/chemistry/life sciences, engineering - machinery/electronics/chemical engineering/materials/biomedical) can apply.
  • Terms of treatment

    - Full tuition and living expenses support
    - Incentive payment based on research performance
    - Support for participation in domestic and international academic conferences
    - Actively supporting overseas research
    - Encourage publication of high impact journal papers (currently, lead author papers have been published in top academic journals such as Nature Nanotechnology, Nature Communications, Science Advances, Advanced Materials, Materials Today, etc.)

Note: It's important to check the last update before applying to a lab. If the last update was a long time ago, the position may have already been filled.
