Introduction to the Lab
Our lab comprehensively conducts research on quantum optical devices, designing/processing/measuring nano-devices such as integrated optical circuits and metamaterials based on semiconductor processes.
Graduate students can conduct research in design (optimization, artificial intelligence), manufacturing (semiconductor process), and measurement (precision electrical/optical measurement) according to their interests.

Objective: Development of state-of-the-art integrated quantum nano-optical devices utilizing semiconductor processes.
Applications: Highly applicable to the field of quantum information and all fields of science and engineering utilizing light.
Comprehensive research on integrated optics and metamaterial devices applicable to quantum information fields
- Process: Nano-optical device process utilizing the entire semiconductor process (E-beam/Photo Lithography, Etching, Deposition, Wet-chem, Wire-bonding, etc.)
- Design: Integrated nano-optical device design through optical simulation, optimization, and deep learning
- Measurements: Precision optical measurements of quantum signals, building fiber optic and spatial light optical setups.

Graduate Information
Starting from October 2022, we have started working at the Korea Institute of Science and Technology and have not yet graduated. Our lab researches integrated quantum photonic devices using semiconductor processes (domestic top-level nanoprocesses), optics, and programming. This research field is deeply related to the following domestic companies.
- Semiconductor Process: Samsung Electronics, SK Hynix, DB HiTek and semiconductor-related companies
- Optical device design (optimization/AI) and optical measurement: Samsung Electronics, LG Innotek, LG Electronics, Samsung Electro-Mechanics, KT, SKT, etc.

- 1 copy of resume and other documents deemed necessary by the applicant for competency assessment
- Please submit one copy of your graduation certificate (or expected graduation certificate), one copy of your transcript, and one copy of your English proficiency certificate upon final acceptance.
Graduate student application period:
NOTE: Academic courses require quick contact and support.
- March admission
Academic-related course: Apply for the KIST academic-related course in August of the previous year, apply to the partner university with a letter of recommendation only for those who passed the academic-related course in September-October, and contact is recommended around June-July at the latest
UST Quantum Information Major: Apply in October of the previous year, apply for the quantum information field, contact recommended around July-September
- September admission
Academic-related course: Apply to KIST academic-related course in February of the same year, apply to the partner university with a letter of recommendation only for those who passed the academic-related course in March-April, contact is recommended around December-January at the latest
UST Quantum Information Major: Apply in April of the same year, apply for the quantum information field, contact recommended around February-March
Undergraduate Researcher: The basic plan is to select a 5-6 month credit internship for one semester + vacation course through the school. Since each school has different circumstances, we recommend contacting via email. [Currently limited to TO]
Qualifications
Qualifications for Graduate Admission
- Applicants who are expected to graduate or have a bachelor's degree
- English proficiency score (TOEIC: 730 points, TOEFL: iBT 79 points, NEW TEPS: 277 points, IELTS: 6 points or higher)
Terms of treatment
Personnel expenses: Ph.D./Annual salary 30 million won, Master's/Annual salary 24 million won, May vary slightly depending on degree program
Provides personal PC and monitor, domestic top-level semiconductor device process experience, research environment with advanced optical measurement infrastructure
