The research groups Research[x]Design at the Department of Architecture, and Robotics at the Department of Mechanical Engineering, are offering a fully-funded, 4-year PhD position at KU Leuven University (Belgium). This interdisciplinary research requires a PhD candidate with expertise in architectural design, human-computer interaction (HCI), and robotics.

The Research[x]Design group, led by Prof. Vande Moere at the Department of Architecture, adopts a design-oriented approach to explore the creative potential of emerging technologies. This research often leads to fundamental theories, design recommendations, and potential university spin-offs.

Prof. Bruyninckx's research group focuses on the specification and control of complex multi-robot tasks, online estimation and decision-making for force-based robots, and the development of new open-source robotics software platforms. Knowledge representation and reasoning play a crucial role in this R&D context.

Both research groups have a history of successful collaboration and share advanced robotic, sensing, and actuation equipment dedicated to advancing robotic fabrication research.
