The Faculty of Engineering Technology, located on Campus De Nayer (Sint-Katelijne-Waver), and the Department of Civil Engineering of the Science Engineering and Technology Group of KU Leuven, invite applications for a PhD position to strengthen the Materials & Structures research group.

We are seeking a dynamic and motivated individual (m/f) to conduct research and pursue a PhD in the field of Additive Manufacturing and Concrete Modeling. This role will support the activities of the 'Materials & Structures' research group and contribute to teaching in the Bachelor and Master of Science in Engineering Technology - Civil Engineering.

Project

General Introduction

  • Conduct advanced numerical and experimental research using cutting-edge tools and equipment.
  • Work independently with precision and methodical approach.
  • Present research findings at internal and external meetings.
  • Publish scientific papers in renowned international journals and present at conferences.
  • Seek external funding opportunities.
  • Possess a solid academic background relevant to the research topic.

Profile

The position is open to applicants holding a master's degree in Engineering Technology, preferably in civil engineering.

  • Achieved high grades (at least distinction) in the Master's degree.
  • Demonstrate a strong interest in multidisciplinary research.
  • Show interest in finite element modeling, discrete modeling, numerical methods, full-scale testing, sustainable construction, and 3D concrete printing.
  • Are motivated, open-minded, team-oriented, and eager for international mobility.
  • Possess excellent English language skills, both spoken and written; knowledge of Dutch is an advantage.
  • Are flexible and possess strong organizational skills.

We offer a full-time position for up to 4 years. You will work as a doctoral student in a stimulating and challenging environment with a high degree of flexibility and autonomy.
