Third-cycle subject: Information and Communication Technologies

We invite applications for doctoral student positions with the Networked Systems Security (NSS) lab at EECS/SCS. We seek highly motivated individuals to pursue a PhD in security and privacy. These positions involve conducting original research and producing results for peer-reviewed publications. The research topics align with the NSS group's focus areas, detailed here.

The NSS group designs and builds trustworthy networked systems, addressing a wide range of security and privacy challenges. Their work has garnered significant attention in the research community. NSS introduced a new security curriculum at KTH. We welcome candidates with experimental/systems or theoretical backgrounds interested in any aspect of security and privacy.

Admission Requirements

To be admitted to postgraduate education (Chapter 7, 39 § Swedish Higher Education Ordinance), applicants must meet basic eligibility criteria, such as:

  • A second-cycle degree (e.g., a master's degree), or
  • At least 240 higher education credits, including 60 second-cycle credits, or
  • Substantially equivalent knowledge acquired elsewhere.

Additionally, a mandatory requirement for English proficiency equivalent to English B/6 is required.

Selection Process

To succeed as a doctoral student at KTH, you need to be goal-oriented and persevering. The selection process will assess your ability to:

  • Work independently.
  • Collaborate effectively with others.
  • Maintain a professional approach.
  • Analyze and handle complex issues.
  • Demonstrate a solid background in several areas, including computer security, privacy-preserving technologies, mobile computing, networking, Internet security, wireless communications, distributed algorithms and systems, programming languages, performance analysis, operating systems, simulation techniques and tools, software engineering, system and network programming, applied cryptography, and information theory.

Strong experimental, systems, or theoretical profiles with research interests in all aspects of security and privacy are encouraged to apply. Applicants should have a keen interest in design, analysis, verification, implementation, or empirical evaluation of secure networked systems. Additionally, candidates must show readiness to contribute to our research and work within an international team.

Emphasis will be placed on personal skills following the qualification requirements.

Information Regarding Admission and Employment

Only those admitted to postgraduate education may be employed as doctoral students. Employment duration may not exceed the equivalent of full-time doctoral education in four years. Employed doctoral students may perform certain tasks within their role (maximum 20%), such as training and administration. Initial employment is for a maximum of one year, with renewals for up to two years at a time. For studies leading to a licentiate degree, the total employment period may not exceed the equivalent of full-time doctoral education for two years.
