The International Max Planck Research School for Translational Psychiatry (IMPRS-TP) offers PhD positions in molecular, cellular, and systemic psychiatric research to outstanding students. Students engage with a broad spectrum of scientific questions and methods, spanning molecular medicine, neuroscience, and clinical psychiatry, utilizing methods from molecular genetics to animal models, neuroimaging, and computational approaches.
Research in a Translational Setting
IMPRS-TP provides a unique integrated PhD/residency program in psychiatry for exceptional medical doctors. This program emphasizes the translational aspect, offering doctorate students insights into clinical disease aspects, while trainee medical doctors gain PhD-level research expertise and develop clinical skills.

The curriculum covers molecular and cellular neuroscience, behavioral assessments, electrophysiology, brain imaging, psychological and clinical measures, epidemiology, statistics, and bioinformatics.

IMPRS-TP is a collaboration of leading scientists from the Max Planck Institutes of Psychiatry and Neurobiology, and the Ludwig Maximilians Universität, Munich. Additional partnerships include the Helmholtz Center Munich, the Munich Medical Research School (MMRS), the Graduate School of Systemic Neurosciences (GSN), Martinsried, Germany, and King’s College London, UK.
Call for Applications
IMPRS-TP invites applications from candidates worldwide holding a Master of Science (or equivalent) in a relevant field or a Medical Degree.
