Job Description

The digitalization of our society and economy has led to a dependency on information and communication technologies, posing serious risks to our cyber security. Nowadays, everything is online, from simple devices like smart lightbulbs to complex systems like medical MRI scanners. These devices form networks such as building automation systems, e-health environments, and smart industry. The blending of cyber and physical worlds requires a broader perspective on security. INTERSECT(*) aims to create an Internet of Secure Things by being multi-disciplinary and considering multiple perspectives: Design, Defense, Attack, Governance, and Privacy.

We have two PhD positions available within INTERSECT. The first track focuses on defense and collaborative security monitoring and response, exploring new ways to detect and identify attacks and suitable responses in collaboration with others. The second track is a general call on IoT security within the mentioned perspectives, with the applicant's expertise and interest shaping the direction.

These positions are within the SECurity cluster of TU Eindhoven, the Netherlands. This group offers a wide range of security topics, including IoT security, network monitoring, social engineering and criminal markets, access control, formal methods, and quantum security. Being part of the INTERSECT consortium provides contacts with many academic and industrial partners, ensuring the relevance of the research. Additionally, the SEC group has excellent contacts with industry and direct access to the ESH-SOC (Eindhoven Security Hub Security Operation Center), an operative environment collecting threat data from third-party IT infrastructures.

(*) This position is part of the NWO/NWA INTERSECT project, Grant Number NWA.1160.18.301. More information on the project is available here: https://intersct.nl/.
