The Panofsky Fellowship recognizes exceptional early-career scientists who would benefit from conducting research at SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory. This fellowship honors SLAC's founder and first Director, Wolfgang K. H. Panofsky.
The fellowship targets early-career researchers (experiment or theory) across various fields related to SLAC's scientific mission:
The fellowship is awarded irrespective of a candidate's specific specialty within SLAC's programs. Initially, Panofsky Fellows join existing research programs at SLAC. Applicants should provide a research plan leveraging SLAC's facilities and resources. We seek candidates proposing innovative research programs that utilize and potentially enhance the Laboratory's capabilities. Candidates are encouraged to explore current programs at SLAC and connect with SLAC staff members to understand how their ideas could be implemented. The research plan should align with SLAC's mission and values (https://careers.slac.stanford.edu/#values).

Applicants should be early in their careers but demonstrate significant postdoctoral experience with potential for exceptional scholarship, breadth, innovation, and leadership. The appointment is at the Associate Staff Scientist Level, with a five-year term at SLAC. The salary is commensurate with experience and includes full benefits and generous research support, including funding for a postdoctoral researcher. Review for promotion to a continuing staff scientist position will occur at, or before, the fellowship's completion.

The expected pay range for this position is $118,000 to $175,000 per annum. SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory/Stanford University provides pay ranges based on the position's scope and responsibilities, candidate qualifications, departmental budget, internal equity, geographic location, and external market pay for comparable jobs.
