Do you want to contribute to top quality medical research?

The Rheumatology Division at the Department of Medicine, Solna, performs translational research to understand the molecular mechanisms behind severe chronic rheumatic diseases. Our division consists of several independent groups involved in research and doctoral education, working collaboratively to enhance our understanding of rheumatic diseases. The close proximity and collaboration between our clinics and the immunology laboratory make our division unique.

Katerina Chatzidionysiou's research focuses on immune-related arthritis, a new form of chronic arthritis caused by treatment with checkpoint inhibitors, a type of immunotherapy in cancer. The research projects will be conducted in collaboration with Karine Chemin's team at the Centre for Molecular Medicine. This opportunity allows you to work in a pioneering field of rheumatology related to oncoimmunology, in one of the world's leading rheumatology/immunology labs.

Your Mission

Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICI) targeting inhibitory receptors have demonstrated clinical efficacy against various cancers. However, treatment with ICI is associated with immune adverse events (ir-AEs) that can affect any tissue type. Your research will focus on ir-AEs targeting the synovial joint, leading to arthritis that often becomes chronic and requires immunosuppressive treatment. The aim is to analyze immune cell subsets and signatures in the synovial joint and blood of these patients. You will oversee and perform single-cell sequencing analysis (10X genomics) with appropriate control steps. Responsibilities include figure and manuscript preparation, electronic lab book reports, and lab presentations. You will also provide bioinformatic support for additional projects within the group. Depending on your profile, cell sorting and validation experiments may be part of your mission.

Your Profile

The ideal candidate should have experience in bioinformatics applied to single-cell sequencing data using R and/or Python. You should have first-author publications in peer-reviewed journals demonstrating your bioinformatic skills. Experience with single-cell dataset integration, velocity, and whole-genome sequencing analyses is a plus. You should be able to work in an interdisciplinary group, be rigorous, and have an interest in translational immunology.

To be eligible for employment as a postdoc, a doctoral degree or a foreign degree deemed equivalent to a doctoral degree is required. This requirement must be fulfilled by the time of the employment decision. It is advantageous if you have completed your doctoral degree within the last three years, though exceptions may be made for earlier completions under special circumstances.
