This full-time position is advertised for a one-year period, starting on 1 October 2024, or as soon as possible afterwards, with the possibility of contract extension.

Essential Requirements:

  • A doctorate in History or a closely related discipline, awarded within the last eight years;
  • A track record of research in Central and/or Eastern European history, with refereed publications;
  • Experience in university-level teaching;
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English;
  • Ability to advocate for History to students;
  • Teamworking skills;

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Good command of French;
  • Experience in university-level administration;

Principal Tasks:

  • Support the Chair’s development of a specialization in Central Europe and a historical foundation for European Interdisciplinary Studies at Natolin;
  • Assist students of the College of Europe in Natolin in writing Master’s theses in European History and Civilization;
  • Assess Master’s theses in European History and Civilization;
  • Support the preparation and execution of historical simulation games within the European Interdisciplinary Studies program;
  • Coordinate extracurricular events organized by the European Civilization Chair, including mentoring a student historical society;
  • Contribute to the preparation and delivery of a second-semester study visit for students;
  • Conduct and publish research in the field of empires and nations in nineteenth- and twentieth-century Central Europe;

The successful candidate will work under the direction of Professor Richard Butterwick-Pawlikowski. Approximately two-thirds of the Fellow’s work time will be dedicated to supporting curricular and extracurricular education and outreach, with about one-third devoted to research.

The College of Europe at Natolin offers an excellent working environment, an internationally competitive salary, and an employment contract under Polish law.
